How Did I Get Here? A Serendipitous Journey Through Photography Exhibitions in the Czech Republic

Our own Kathleen Gerber shares an interesting and unique presentation.
Kathleen Gerber is an American photographer whose work spans landscape, architecture, wildlife, street photography, infrared imagery, and documentary storytelling. Her projects often explore social themes such as albinism awareness, adaptive sports, and cultural life across regions including Mexico, Asia, Africa, and the American Southwest.
Gerber’s images are distinguished by their emotional depth and focus on humanity. Whether documenting quiet landscapes or complex social realities, she seeks to evoke empathy and understanding through visual narrative. Recognized for her openness and artistic strength at events such as the Czech Art Photo Festivals, Gerber continues to use photography as a means to inspire reflection and illuminate important social issues.
"I was thrilled to participate in two remarkable exhibitions last summer, both curated by Czech Art Photo. The first featured twelve American photographers, entitled Woman, in a large exhibition center in a small town in the central Czech Republic. The work then traveled to a second exhibition, where it was shown alongside photographs by Czech and Slovak artists in a 900-year-old monastery near the Austrian border. The ancient stone walls, layered with centuries of history, created a setting that felt nothing short of magical. Seeing contemporary images resonate within such a sacred, timeworn space was profoundly moving. "
