Also, if your photoshoot is not going that well you can always go across the street to the Longbranch Saloon.

Tickets are $10.00 at the gate.  I did not ask about parking but last year parking was free.

Last year the best time for shooting was Thursday because there were fever people. Also recommend showing up a little earlier than 5:30PM, you may get some great photos of performers warming up their horses.

Sunset on the Oceano Dunes

Sunday, October 25, 2026    5 PM

Oceano Dunes - Full moon rise 5:47 PM (4.3% larger) / Sunset 6:15 PM

Meet at 5:00 PM in the parking lot in front of Pacific Dunes Ranch Campground, 1207 Silver Spur Place,

Oceano.

Recommendation: Flashlight, cell phone, hiking boots, and bring water.

Be aware that the wind may be blowing, and the dunes can be cold so be sure to wear appropriate

clothing. If windy the dust can harm your camera lens/sensor.

See the map from Bob Canepa a local gifted Dunes photographer. Please check out his Web page.

Location: HWY 1/Cabrillo HWY to 22nd Street. 22nd Street to Silver Spur Road to Pacific Dunes RV

Ranch Campground.

There are two fences as you turn into the parking area, adjacent to the office building. The

management has asked all visitors to park outside the fence closest to the street.

“THERE ARE NO BATHROOM FACILITIES OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!”

To access the dunes entrance, walk by the office up the hill following the road. About a quarter mile

later you will come to the entrance to the dunes, having passed some cars parked on the right as well

as trash dumpsters.

This will be an evening shoot at sunset be very sur to bring a flashlight/torch you may need as you

leave the dune area. There is a challenging appearance within the dunes as the area becomes

darker in which depth perception is slightly off and indistinct. `
